Shahjahanabad 2014

Shahjahanabad, the ancient walled city in present-day New Delhi, India, was created during my first “real” overseas trip dedicated to photography. In 2014, I was terrified, yet thrilled about venturing out into this land called, “India” that I heard so much about from other travelers and photographers. I visited Europe and East Asia before, but India was another world, another planet. Built in 1648 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, I spent two weeks roaming the streets of Old Delhi, exploring its narrow alleys, snaking through pungent aromas filling the air and the endless cacophony of sounds. Looking back, I was fascinated by the old ways of living inside a walled area placed in a modern metropolis that made Shahjahanabad a living time-capsule.
